Not much of the Lancaster is left at this site now. The original cross had gone rotten and was replaced in December 2005. All seven crew members were killed. SITE LOCATION - Tintwistle Knarr. Grid Ref. SK.0356.9926.
The wreckage of the two Meteors is spread over a large area of Sliddens Moss. Both pilots were killed. Over the years many parts have been dug out of the peat bog. There never has been a cross of remembrance at this site. One was placed in Meadow Clough in December 2005. SITE LOCATION - Sliddens Moss. Grid Ref. SE.0680.0292.
Lightning P38. 496 Fighter Training Unit, H.Q. Squadron U.S.A.A.F. Crashed 10th May 1944. SITE LOCATION. Tintwistle Knarr. Grid.Ref. SK.0393.9908.
Lancaster KB993 of 408 Squadron R.C.A.F. Crashed 18th May 1945. The crew of six were all killed. SITE LOCATION. James`s Thorn. Grid Ref. SK.0790.9490.
Superfortress B-29 44-61999 "Over Exposed". 16th Photographic Reconnaisance Squadron U.S.A.F. Crashed on 3rd November 1948.These photos were taken on a day similar to the day that the Superfortress crashed with visibility at approx. 100 Mts. This is the largest crash site in the Dark Peak area. A service is held here every November in memory of all those that lost their lives at the many crash sites in the Peak District National Park.
